About Me
I am a student at Flinders University, and hope to graduate with a Bachelor of Science (Biodiversity and Conservation) in 2015. I am passionate about great apes and their welfare, and my ultimate goal would be to work with them as as keeper/caregiver.
In early 2013, I created a website and Facebook page, 'Project Chimpanzee' with the goal of using the combination of the two as a platform to encourage positive action for the benefit of chimpanzees, and increase awareness of issues such as their use in biomedical research, the entertainment industry, the pet trade and the bushmeat trade.
As part of my working towards an eventual career with great apes, I spent two weeks in South Africa at the Jane Goodall Institute's sanctuary in 2012. In my volunteer role I observed and recorded the behaviour of the rescued chimpanzees, part of an ongoing study by the sanctuary. I intend to spend a couple of months as an intern at a chimpanzee sanctuary in the USA in the coming years, to further my knowledge and experience in captive chimpanzee care. I started volunteering weekly at Adelaide Zoo in 2013, preparing enrichment items for the zoo's animals.
Since I was very young I've been greatly interested in dogs. In 2011 I added a beautiful Saluki girl, Bella (or Baghdad Cool Coquette as she is also known), to our family. We've recently hit the show ring, and Bella has her first points towards her Championship. I am enjoying learning about the Saluki breed, and intend to be involved with the breed through showing and possibly breeding for many years in the future.
I enjoy drawing primates, and I do a bit of Disney fan art for fun as well.
Thanks for visiting my site, do enjoy having a look around.
